Ensuring seafood produced locally and imported meet safety standards for human consumption.
The Seafood Verification Agency is our seafood quality control agency that conducts inspections, certification on Vanuatu seafood exporters and imported as well as exported fisheries products where both national and relevant international seafood standards are applied.
Who we are:
- Verify and certify import and export of quality seafood product
- To ensure the application of appropriate quality control measures and seafood production industry standards
- To ensure the facilitation of exports from
Vanuatu of all categories of seafood for human consumption
The core activities of the Division
- inspections of processing facilities;
- sanitary inspection of flag vessels;
- develop and implement seafood standards;
- inspect local seafood market;
- collect export data and;
- training for seafood
INSPECTION OF FISH MARKETS
This is an important program to ensure that the fish market meet all the requirements and standards to be operationalize as a seafood market. This is important for the local fishers to ensure seafood quality is maintained.
WATER SAMPLING
This program is important to ensure that water that will be used / is used for fish and fishery product is safe
COLD STORAGE AUDITING
Auditing of the facility to ensure that cold storage meets minimum requirements before operation.
LANDING SITES AUDITING
Landing site auditing to ensure landing site meets minimum requirements to enable hygienic offloading from fishing vessels. Seafood team conducting audits on landing sites at Ports and harbor main wharf, Port Vila.
